Project Description 

The Cuber embodies an architectural initiative focused on the creation of a residential building that uniquely integrates a public utility area on its ground level, all situated within the boundaries of a relatively small piece of land.

This ambitious endeavour began with a preliminary exploration of the location, which unveiled the challenging truth about the property's constrained size. Given its situation, surrounded by two major roads and adjacent buildings, and with the inclusion of subterranean parking facilities, the area available for design was limited.

This scenario posed significant obstacles to traditional architectural layouts, demanding innovative solutions to effectively utilize the available space.

Adopting a programmatic design strategy that emphasizes the use of oriented grids became the key to unlocking a practical and effective architectural solution. This method enabled the fluid rotation of structural elements, thereby adding an element of visual interest to the building's corner.

This innovation not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the edifice but also allowed for a harmonious integration with the nearby public parking facilities.

The constraints associated with the impossibility of excavating a basement, due to the pre-existing parking infrastructure, led to the adoption of a vertical stacking approach. This strategy was ingeniously designed to reduce spatial density without sacrificing the building's functionality or utility.

Additionally, the decision to incorporate timber cladding and external pilasters significantly enriched the building's aesthetic, creating a sense of unity with the natural environment and fostering a connection with the immediate urban context. This choice of materials not only elevated the building's visual appeal but also contributed to a sustainable and eco-friendly design ethos.

The careful application of reinforced concrete as a core construction material ensured that the forces acting upon the structure were evenly distributed, thus securing the building's structural integrity and ensuring its durability over time.
